What makes a good friend? How can you keep positive friendships?

☐Choice 1: Letter to a Friend
Write a letter to a friend that explains 3-5 friendship and positive relationships qualities that you really appreciate. You can write your letter on paper or on the computer. If you want to send your letter to your friend and did it on paper, before sending it scan, photograph, or photocopy your letter so you have a copy to submit. Use the friendly letter format pictured and explained below.
The heading contains your address followed by the date.
- The greeting may be formal (Dear --,) or informal (Hi, --,) but it always ends in a comma in a friendly letter.
- The body contains your main text. Skip a line after the greeting and before the closing.
- In the first paragraph of the body tell what the letter is about.This can be 1-3 sentences. (I am writing you to tell you….)
- The next paragraph(s) will talk about the 3-5 friendship and positive relationships qualities that you appreciate. You may wish to give an example or explanation for each quality you choose to include. (You have a few specific qualities that I appreciate. Firstly,….)
- The concluding (last) paragraph will conclude your letter. You may want to review the chosen qualities, wish the friend well, or ask a question. This can be short (2-4 sentences).
- The closing is on a single line and ends in a comma. Examples are Sincerely, Yours truly, and Warm regards.
- The signature is usually two lines below the closing and may be typed (if being sent via computer) or handwritten.
☐Choice 2: Friendship Report Card
Complete the “Friendship Report Card” (CLICK TO DOWNLOAD) for a character in a story or novel you have recently read.
- Use the performance scale to rate how well your character performs for each chosen friendship / relationship qualities.
- In the comment section, give statements that show why the character deserves the ratings you chose. You may provide specific examples.
- Based on the report card, set a goal (or goals) for improvement in the bottom section of the report card.
☐Choice 3: Friendship Soup Recipe
Make your own friendship soup recipe. You can present it in a document, as an infographic, as a talk show (home facilitator or partner interviews you), or as a video - like a cooking show. Be sure to include at least 6 ingredients for positive relationships and to tell why each ingredient is important.
