In this assignment, you will choose a country to study that has a different system of government than our own. A template to download is provided at the bottom of this page. Choosing a country can be a daunting task.  Think about what might interest you.

Are you interested in a country with a dictator as their leader, such as North Korea?  What would it be like living in a country like this?

What would an Absolute Monarchy in Saudi Arabia be like?

What about living in a country where the military is in charge?

Maybe you want to focus on a country that interests you generally.  As long as the system of government is different than ours, then by all means, look into it further.

Would it be much different living in a country like China?  What might be different?

How about Russia?

Get the idea?  The choice is yours!

Use this map to help you choose a country.

Once you choose your country, follow these steps to get started.

1. First, read about the government in the country you chose. Take point-form notes in your own words. This means you write information in ways you can understand and try to "summarize" the main ideas. A topic like government can be tricky. Your home facilitator can help you to understand what you read.

2. Turn your point-form notes into complete sentences, giving detailed information about the system of government:

  1. What form of government is it and what is the election process?
  2. How are the ‘ordinary’ people involved in choosing their government?
  3. What are the various levels of this government?
  4. How are decisions that affect the whole country made?

Discuss your personal thoughts about the government of the country you chose:

  • Would you choose this form of government or not? Explain your answer fully.
  • Would or could you live in this country with the form of government that is there? Explain your answer fully.

Download the Word Document below on which to record your answers and write a response paragraph.
