Lab: International Meal
You will be creating an international meal that includes protein, starch, and vegetables/fruits. You can find the recipe online or in a cookbook. You should have at least two separate dishes. Make copies of the lab sheet as needed to write all your recipes out. This is your final lab and you are expected to challenge yourself by trying new food products, spices, and cooking techniques.
Please download this document and fill it in to be submitted for your lab mark. To do this you will need to complete three sections of the assignment.
LAB INFORMATION
1. You will need to find a recipe that best incorporates local ingredients. Copy out the ingredients, equipment, and procedures on your lab sheet. Then you will gather everything that you need and follow the recipe.
PHOTOS
2. As you will have at least two dishes for this meal you need to take a minimum of 8 pictures of you preparing each of the products for a total of 16 photos.
- You must be clearly visible, including your face, in at least 8 of the pictures. You can take selfies or have a friend or family member take photos of you in action. Make sure to take images of the entire process. Marks will be taken off if you do not.
- You must clearly show the steps you have taken to make the product. Take photos of yourself measuring the ingredients, dicing, sifting, cutting in, folding, rolling, whisking, flipping, etc.
- You must have photos of your final products. Take an image of each dish as a whole. Then have a final presentation image where you plate your products so they are ready to serve on a plate. For example, find a decorative plate or two and artfully display individual servings of Thai coconut curry with prawns, Thai pineapple fried rice, and Thai green mango salad. You can even add a garnish, a nice napkin, and something to drink with it.
EVALUATION
3. You must fill out an evaluation of your meal. This includes an evaluation done by yourself and an adult. Be sure to use descriptive words and discuss the process, the product, expectations, previous experience, and anything else you observed while making this meal. Use your five senses in your descriptions. Be detailed and creative with your word choice. Ask the adult who is tasting your food to do the same in their evaluation.
Marks will go towards the complexity of the meal and challenging yourself to try new foods, spices, and cooking techniques.
