3.4 Promoting a Safe and Caring Environment

For this assignment, you are to do a "Random Act of Kindness". To submit, all you need to do is write a few sentences telling what you did and how it made you feel. There are many ideas below and many of them do not cost any money. Of course, if you have a picture or video of this act, your teacher would love to see it. You can do this on paper, on a document, on a short powerpoint, in a video, or in an audio recording. Be sure to share both parts:

  • What you did
  • How it made you feel

A random act of kindness is an unexpected kindness done by one person for another without any way to have predicted it. It is a lot of fun and teachers compassion and service. Any act of kindness no matter how big or small can make a difference – especially when done intentionally.

  • Leave someone a kind note.
  • Donate old books.
  • Clean up your room without being asked.
  • Help clean the kitchen without being asked.
  • Create care packages and with an adult, take them to a homeless shelter or a lonely senior you know.
  • Call an elder from your family (grandparent, aunt, uncle) that you rarely talk to just to say hello. (Or, they love getting things in the mail. You could make and mail a card "just because you are thinking of them".)
  • Donate toys you no longer need to a local charity who will give them to kids who need them.
  • Get and give flowers to a senior who may be lonely.
  • Clean up a local park or recreation area. Be sure to take an adult and wear rubber gloves of some kind. Some items are not safe to pick up. Your adult can help you; if you are not sure if you should pick something up, leave it.
  • Donate items to a local food bank – food or diapers or other items.
  • If it is close to winter holidays, donate to a local toy drive.
  • With your adult, deliver a treat to community helpers.
  • Teach a younger child your family knows a board or card game.
