Fong Family Writing Project
Instructions:
Watch the video below about Chinese immigration and life in Canada.
Start with Quon Man Fong and work through each family member ilisted. As you complete each one, do the worksheet provided and hand in below.
For each character, you need to compose either a letter, journal entry, or some other personal composition from the perspective of the family member and hand in at the end of this section.
You will hand in 4 entries, one for each family member. You will find worksheets to help you complete this assignment below.
Assignment Worksheets:
Work through each member. As you complete a member, do the worksheet located in blue below.
Each worksheet has two questions to help you think about important considerations for each family member and a writing piece to help you think about their situation from their perspective.
Be sure to put yourself in the family member's shoes.
For example, when you write from Quon Man Fong's point of view, consider her struggle to leave her family in China and how much she must miss her husband in Canada.
Also, it costs a lot of money for her to come to Canada. Not only would her husband have to pay for the cost of the trip, but they would also have to pay the $500.00 head tax when she arrives in Canada. How would she feel about this expense?
Be sure to watch the videos for each family member to help you understand the difficulties that Chinese immigrants faced.
