Book Review – 20 Marks

What is your book about? Brief—a paragraph at the very most.  (3 marks)

Characters: Suggested questions to choose from: Which characters do you like the most? Why? Which characters do you like the least? Why? (3 marks)

Author’s Writing: What did you like about the author’s writing? (3 marks)

Suggestions / Recommendations (including why or why not):  (3 marks)

Proofreading/Editing: (3 marks)

3 marks: Proofreading and editing have resulted in few if any errors.

2 marks: There are a few minor errors that usually don't interfere with meaning.

1 mark: Further proofreading and editing are suggested. Errors distract from meaning.

Final presentation and effort: (5 marks)

5 marks: Wow! This is super neat. I've put in some "extra" effort and touches to enhance my presentation. I should be really proud of this work of art!

4 marks: Very good! I've put in some extra effort and touches to enhance my presentation.

Book Jacket – 20 marks

Front Cover (3 marks) – title, author, illustrator (if applicable), picture

Inside Flap (3 marks) - Summary (up to a point) introducing the novel and catching the reader’s interest by using a strong voice and making the book sound enjoyable.

Back Flap (3 marks) – About the author – Brief – A few sentences about the author and a few other books he or she has written.

Back Cover (3 marks) – Two of: Reviews of the novel, an exciting excerpt and a second illustration.

3 marks: Proofreading and editing have resulted in few if any errors.

2 marks: There are few minor errors that usually don't interfere with meaning.

Front Page News – 20 marks

Cover Story (4 marks) - about an important event in the story. Give it a headline. Be sure your lead (first few sentences) tells who, what, where, when, why, and how. Then you can fill in some details in the body and be creative! Interview an eyewitness or two or add an opinion. You can add a photo, too.

Teasers (4 marks) Teasers - Snippets of one or two stories that would be inside the paper if you were to have created the entire thing, related to the novel, of course! A

Advertisement(s) (4 marks)  may not be directly from evidence in the text but think about what a character may benefit from or what the community in the novel may need. Create an advertisement for it to put on the front page
