In this unit, students are expected to learn how to do the following:

• understand how geographic conditions will shape civilizations 
• describe how various civilizations such as the Maya and the Nazca responded to challenges of climate
• analyze artifacts in order to come to understand the beliefs of an ancient culture
• Consider the ethical considerations faced by archaeologists
• Weigh evidence relating to theories and interpretations of why societies built particular monumental structures
